5 Sqn InlaySouth Holland Looks Back
Local Life 1913 - 1973

A Lincolnshire Film Archive Presentation

Remember the Home Guard, the 1947 Floods, the first ever Tulip Parade, the Conformation Service broadcast live on TV from Spalding Parish Church?

Here's your chance to recall a wide selection of memorable local events from days gone by - or to catch up on what you missed.

Using archive film footage from many parts of the district, this special video compilation reviews life in South Holland across three generations, from a procession in Spalding beofre the First World War, to the Duke of Edinburgh's visit in 1973.

You'll see farming at Surfleet and Holbeach, in the days of working horses and steam threshing; horticulture at Quadring; Market Day in Spalding, with cattle in the streets; steam trains at Sutton Bridge; the bulb industry from the 1930s right through to the opening of Springfields.

Then there's skating on Cowbit Wash; football on the Black Swan Field; Surfleet Res in the thirties; vanished landmarks like Paul Hart's Corner; and, of course, a whole gallery of once familiar faces - and voices - from the past.
